Slit Skirt Suggested fabrics: 4-way, at least 50% stretch fabrics only. Cotton/LYCRA knit, Ponte, and rayon/LYCRA jersey, stretch velvet, double knit blends.
Pencil Skirt Suggested fabrics: Ponte, rayon/LYCRA jersey, cotton/LYCRA knit, stretch velvet, double knits.

The Slit Skirt has a generous hip curve, shaped center back seam and seat room for a flattering “shaped but not tight” look when worn with an open jacket or a shell tucked into the wide waistband. Consider the angle of the hem taper before cutting and widen if it is too severe. Perfect paired with # 519 Swing Jacket.
Suggested design options: Shorten, Add elastic instead of the waistband or narrow the waistband.

The Pencil Skirt- Choosing your size by using your body measurements this skirt will fit tight. Size up for more ease depending on the fabric and fit desired then re-shape the side seams for the perfect fit. Wait until after you have achieved the perfect fit to tack the waistline facing.
The Pencil Skirt has no separate waistband or elastic but uses the negative ease to keep it on the waistline. Do not be afraid to try this skirt, it is wonderful and versatile.
Suggested design options: Shorten

Take the A-Line: Sew News, September 2000

Marry quality stretch knit fabrics—a modern wardrobe staple—with clean silhouettes to capitalize on their stretch, recovery and drape. Try Christine Jonson Patterns #519 (sizes XS-XL), a shawl collar swing jacket, and #330 (sizes 4-22) a slim shirt with self-faced darted waistband and back slit. Cotton/LYCRA creates a dramatic drape in the jacket and smooth fit in the body-hugging skirt, while Rayon/LYCRA blend adds a hint of shimmer to #917 (sizes XS-XL), a loose-fitting tee offering three hem and two sleeve lengths, plus a turtleneck option.
