Suggested fabrics: Double knits with LYCRA are best for this pant. Cotton/LYCRA knits are great too. Stay away from stiff, unforgiving fabrics when choosing a woven fabric, instead look for drape, softness and stability.
This pant pattern needs snappy stretch fabric to fit as designed, which means a 4-inch square of the fabric can stretch 7 to 8 inches in all directions.
Suggested design options: This pant can be made with stretch woven fabrics by increasing size and adding a side or back zipper. Make a stretch muslin first to test for size.
To decide which size pattern to use for the fit you want, measure your hips at their widest point, and compare this measurement to the chart.
The Straight Leg Pant is sized so that the waist has negative ease, i.e., the waist is 4-6”(10-15cm) smaller than your actual waist measurement. The snappy stretch fabric will then hug your waist.
It is always best to have experience with a pattern before venturing from its original intent. Use the pattern once as directed to become familiar with the design.
