There are lots of creative choices with this pattern. It can be made with a variety of fabrics, it can be lined or unlined, long or short, belted with or without buttons. The excellent fit and simple, sophisticated lines of this coat make it fun to be creative and design it for yourself without worrying about difficult construction and fitting problems. Use a great selvedge for the hems and collar or add seams and pockets to make it your own. Enjoy serging your new coat no matter what fabric choice and take the fear out of coat making.
A great beginning coat pattern for novice sewers. Don't look for pad stitched interfacing and collars, bound buttonholes or hand stitching here. Front, back, sleeves, collar and facings are the only pattern pieces. Why line it? would be my only question. Although I do understand :)
Suggested design options:
Lengthen and shorten.
Use an interesting selvedge for the hems, pockets and a single layer collar.
Contrasting facing and pocket fabric.
Fur collar and cuffs!

Christine Jonson Patterns, 122 Easy Coat has simple lines and a nice cut. The straight knee-length (36 in. long/size S), or ankle-length (48 in. long) coat has many options: welt or patch pockets, an optional wrap belt, lined or unlined. "I've never made a coat this fast before," says our tester, who serged her garment together although she set in the sleeves conventionally. The garment is as versatile as the fabric used: dressy tapestry, sporty denim, or cozy knit.
(Sized XS-XL, for busts 32-1/2 - 48 in.)
